If you think Tampa’s changed a lot in the last few years, you should see what it did in the 1920s. A new temporary exhibit at the Tampa Bay History Center explores that decade using more than 100 objects—including underwear worn by the mother of late Tampa Tribune journalist Leland Hawes—plus interactive elements. Music, dance, recreation, housing, prohibition, the Pentecostal religious movements and even Jim Crow are all covered, and as a bonus, the Touchton Map Library has a separate exhibit (“Sharps & Marks in Paradise: Selling Florida in the 1920s”), which explores the Florida land boom that started in… (813) 228-0097

Irish immigrant Tim Finnegan wants to be a writer in America but struggles to find his path. That all changes when a stranger arrives with a plan to make people “disappear and reappear.” In this mischievous, one-man, rhyming-verse dark comedy, Tim learns the price he must pay to become an American. Step into his secret speakeasy (with a real working bar!) to hear a twisty story with unsavory characters and shady shenanigans. Regional audiences may recall Davies’ highly acclaimed run of this show in Sarasota at Urbanite Theatre. Tampa Bay area audiences can look forward to a slightly different ending. 813-229-7827

    Chihuly Collection

720 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg St. Pete

Architecture and interior design have been crucial to Dale Chihuly’s work since the beginning of his career. His massive, site-specific installations are always created with the surrounding space in mind: think of Chihuly Over Venice, his ambitious project in which fourteen chandeliers were suspended over the canals and piazzas of that famous city. Then there was his 2000 project Chihuly in the Light of Jerusalem, when he transformed the Tower of David Citadel with his colorful installations. A sense of place, whether it’s an urban setting, a museum, or a garden, is pivotal to how one views Chihuly’s work. 7278227872

The world premiere of the gripping and spirited Roshin’s Wake, a new historical Irish solo show, written, directed and performed by award-winning actor, Dorothy Hershman, will have three performances only, January 19-21. The one hour play is a simple “journeying tale.” But, the journey this story is primarily concerned with is not the journey of Irish Immigrant Oognah Donohue, grandmother, crossing the western frontier in 1864, Rather it is the tale of one woman’s very human journey from tragedy, through grieving, to a celebration of life. 727-895-6620
